State Legislation

ANA works in coordination with Constituent Member (State) Associations (CMAs) to implement a Nationwide State Legislative Agenda that focuses on issues important to nurses, including the development and implementation of valid and reliable nurse staffing systems.
Year to date, eleven states (CA, CT, FL, IL, ME, NJ, OH, OR, RI, TX, VT) plus the District of Columbia have enacted legislation and/or adopted regulations addressing nurse staffing. States have utilized varying approaches: mandated ratios; hospital staffing committee responsible for creating staffing plans, and disclosure; or a combination of the three.
